Wakkaman Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Hi all, I started this week with autocad and did some tutorials. I am trying to reproduce this garden in autocad, just for practice: Most stuff i am able to do. But the only thing i really find difficult is the fluid forms you see below in the garden. I am aware of the polyline functions, and i am able to do it with polyline/arc, but it's really not intuitive and rather difficult. I am also aware of the polyline options curve or split fit, but that's really not precise at all. Any suggestion how to this more easy? (And i have also another problem, somehow when i use polyline i get these weird boxes when drawing, probably turned something on....?) (srry for my broken english). Quote
ReMark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Your weird boxes might be due to having the system variable FILL turned off. Quote
ReMark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Re: fluid curves used for pathways. You could bring an image into AutoCAD and do your best to trace over them with a polyline then use the Spline option of the Pedit command to approximate them. A better way would be to digitize them in (electronic tracing) but you probably do not have a digitizer hanging around. The method would be very similar to the first one I mentioned but your picks would be more precise and you could use short polyline segments to rough-out the curves before converting them to splines. Wakkaman Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 Hej ReMark, Thnks for your reply. i went to a website for system variable fill command: SYSVDLG But the command doesn't work. I use autocadLT. Quote
ReMark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Try typing the word FILL at the command line. If the command is recognized then set it from Off to On. Quote
Wakkaman Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 Thnks again for the quick reply's. I did fill, and tried off and on to see what is happens. If i turn fill off i still have this box instead of a line, if i turn fill on it get's even worse, becease the boxes are like a hatch/filled. Quote
Wakkaman Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 Immediately when you click a point and want to draw it's not a line but a box. Quote
ReMark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Did you do a Regen after making the change from Off to On? Quote
ReMark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Just out of curiousity what width are you using for your polylines? Quote
Wakkaman Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 Man thnks, i am stupid.... That was the problem. Quote
ReMark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Made more than my share of stupid mistakes too. Live and learn. You're entirely welcomed. Quote
eldon Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 You could bring an image into AutoCAD and do your best to trace over them with a polyline then use the Spline option of the Pedit command to approximate them. On a purely personal quest for understanding, could you please explain why you recommend the Spline option, when by doing that, the resultant curve pulls away from the pick points? I would have used the Fit option, but I am willing to learn new techniques. Quote
ReMark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 My picks using the digitizer's puck are so close together by the time I back out of the drawing (I zoom in quite close) the difference between "fit curve" and "spline" is negligible. But I do concede your excellent point. Quote
Wakkaman Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 Thnks all for advice. I used spline goes excellent. Quote
