javent Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I'm using Civil3D 2010. Every time I qsave, or AutoCad does the autosave, I can no longer select any items. It's as though there is nothing on my screen. I can see everything, but I can' select anything. Crossings don't work, clicking on individual objects doesn't work. If I try to save again, or even close the program, I get a fatal error. I have ran the recover and audit commands and no errors were found. I can open the drawing and everything is fine. Just to be clear, this error doesn't happen during the save. It saves fine. The problem happens after the save. I have my automatic save set to every 10 minutes, so this error happens every ten minutes. Then I have to close and reopen the drawing. I could turn my autosave off, but over the years I've gotten into the habit of qsaving about every 15 minues or so anyway. I don't want to have to close and reopen the drawing every time I save. I am running Windows XP with a 2.83 GHz processor and 3.25 GB of RAM. Any help is greatly appreciated. Quote
ReMark Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Is this happening with just one particular drawing or any drawing that you work on? Quote
javent Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Only one particular drawing, but I've been working on this drawing a while and this just started happening yesterday. I can't think of anything out of the ordinary that I've done, although it is a rather large file (23 MB). It has a large surface (+1700 acres) and also some aerial photos. But again, I created the surface a while back and haven't had any problems until recently. Quote
ReMark Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 23MB file size. Hmmm. Are other drawing files as large? Quote
javent Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 That's the biggest one I've had. But I don't see a way around it. The surface is a small as possible. I'm doing an H & H study on a large area. And this drawing is only going to get bigger, because the survey crew isn't finished, so there will be more points added later, and at some point I'm going to cut cross sections on my alignments. ReMark Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Is this drawing being saved to a network drive or your computer's own hard drive? Are there any Xrefs attached? Do you use annotative scaling for text, dimensions, hatches, etc. Quote
alanjt Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 If there are XRefs, open each one and purge/audit/purge/audit/save. This will solve a lot of problems. I can tell you, if the file is too big, you are going to have problems, especially with that huge surface. Try breaking the file up (Xref in the images from another file, etc.). Quote
javent Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 There are no xrefs. This is my base drawing. I have a few annotatiave blocks, but they're small and I only have a few. No annotative text. Drawing is saved on our network. Quote
ReMark Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Try saving to your hard drive and not the network. As a matter of fact download the drawing to your hard drive. Exit everything and shut-off the computer. Disconnect the network cable. Boot up your computer, open Civil3D and immediately save the drawing. What happens next? Quote
slntkrr Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 If the purging and audit doesnt work and you still think it could be the size maybe save your surface as a seperate file all on its own and wipe everything else out. Then shortcut it into the base file with your line work and image. This may speed things up a little. Quote
javent Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 I've figured out that it has something to do with the aerials (sid files). If I remove the sid files then I have no problems. When I add the sid files, then I have the problem. I use 'mapwspace' to add these sid files. I've used sid files many times before and never had any problems, but I like I said before, this is a large area so I'm importing a bunch of files. Quote
