Hi all,

I have a problem with PLINE in AutoCAD 2010 that I didn't have with AutoCAD2004 and I hope someone can help me out. I often convert my 2D drawings to 3D using solids, with my 2D drawings saved as a block for use as a template.

When I have to create a cutout for a hole or other feature, I often trace over my sketch template using PLINE, and then revolving that PLINE to form a seperate solid that I then subtract from my main part. In AutoCAD 2010, it seems that when I try and draw a PLINE on a sketch, if my cursor is over a flat face of my 3D main part, PLINE wants to automatically switch the UCS orientation to match that of the face of the object. This makes tracing my PLINE over my 2D sketch template impossible. Is there a setting or something that will prevent PLINE from switching the UCS to match a face from a 3D object?

I'm including some screen caps to show a simplified example of my problem. Any help in resolving this problem would be appreciated.

Image 3: PLINE wants to force a change in UCS based on surface of main solid part

Image 4: As a result, I can't sketch over my template with PLINE.

Dang, F6... I was wondering what that does. Well, now I feel dumb as a bag of rocks. Thanks for the help Kencaz!

Eh, I could have lived with that curse. It's the curse of the stretch that's got me fuming over the changes from 2004 to 2010. Bah.
