harley558 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I have created a model that has numerous fillets and chamfers. When I select fillet then try to select an edge it highlights the entire surface as if the edge was a pline. Is there any way around this? I actually need to just pick individual edges. Quote
linnmaster Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Hello. In the fillet/chamfer dialogue box that comes up when you create the feature, on the right hand side there are 3 options under select mode - Edge, Loop, Feature. My guess is that you have the loop option selected, but it still shouldn't highlight the entire surface, but just the loop of edges like a spline as you say. In saying that, if you had the edge option selected, it will only highlight the single edge only if that edge is not continuous with another. For example, if you have a sqaure, you will be able to select the individual edges (4 separate edges), however, if your square had rounded corners, it will pick up the 4 edges and 4 rounded corners as one. Does that make sense? My wording may be a bit iffy, so if you don't understand, let us know, but I'll attach an image if I get the chance. Hope that helps. Regards, David Quote
kencaz Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Are you using "Inventor 8" or "2008"? I have 10 and 2008 Pro but Your fillet options dialogue may be different. Post a screen shot if you can... KC Quote
linnmaster Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 OK peoples ... see screenshots attached. A simple rectangular/square block is modelled with a radiused corner. When creating the fillet/chamfer, dialogue box pops up as shown. With edge option selected, you can highlight the top straight edge individually as shown ... or the vertical edge on the left. However, When you want to pick the bottom edge or the right edge individually, it will want to select the edge inculding the radius as it's a continuous edge ... like what you refer to a spline - as shown ... With loop option selected, it will pickup all edges as shown ... but this is contrary to what you experience with the face highlighted also ... Hope that helps. Regards, David Quote
linnmaster Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Freaking hell .... sorry about the MASSIVE screen shot images... I need to get some image editing software on this machine!!!!! Quote
kencaz Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I was kinda referring to harley558 post the screen-shot... KC Quote
harley558 Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 Here is a zip file of what I am working on. I am currently using Inventor 8. Also I have included a dwg so you can see where the fillets and chamfers need to go. aa.zip ab.dwg Quote
shift1313 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 well part of the trouble the fact that you added fillets to the first sketch. I would advise that you dont add fillets in the sketch. This will give you greater control over them in the modeling environment as well as make updates/changes easier. When you try to fillet an Edge it is going to select the edge and all tangent section of that line. So you are going to get a fillet all the way around the body until that sharp transition where the 15degree angle starts in your top view. About your only option as it stands is the FaceFillet but the results will not match your acad file. I would go back to your original sketch and remove your sketch fillets. Here are some screen shots showing you face fillet. The last image was after removing the sketch fillets and doing the fillet operations on the solid model. Quote
JD Mather Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 About your only option as it stands is the FaceFillet but the results will not match your acad file. Here are some screen shots showing you face fillet. FaceFillet did not exist in Inventor 8. Quote
