Marcus Telus Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Hi. I'm using AutoCAD 2009 to begin with. I've created fields which consist of Areas. When I create a table, I insert my Fields in the different rows/columns. When I want to insert a formula in the last cell of the table, I select the cells that I want to include in my SUMation. When I do this, all I get is #### instead of the actual total of the cells I've indicated. What am I doing wrong? I've searched all over the WEB for an answer but to no avail. Quote
ReMark Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 In Excel the designation #### meant the column was too narrow to display the value. Have you tried making the column wider? Quote
Marcus Telus Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 I figured the same thing that in Excel, it means that the column and/or row is not wide enough to accommodate the sum, BUT, I made sure that my rows and columns in my AutoCad table are about 3 times wider than what the actual answer should be. I've even used rounded numbers of 1 digit so as not to make them complex and it still gives me the #### as my total. In Excel the designation #### meant the column was too narrow to display the value. Have you tried making the column wider? Quote
Fire Alarm Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Try these steps. 1) With the table created and the information already in. Select the cell that you want the formula in. 2) Go to the table toolbar and select the formual button (fx), and pick what you need from the drop down list, which would propbably be equation. 3) Then type in the formual you want along with the cell range. Rebel Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 As far as I know, the "####" in an autocad table means there is something wrong with your formula. From my experience, Autocad tables are a tad more finickey than excel. Fire Alarms suggestion is the route I usually go as well. The formula options allow you to look through and select what you need, then execute the code properly. I have a table set up to count the total power I need for a specific job, and if any of the cells it is pulling from are anything but a number, I get the "###". Are any of your cells included in the count designated for text instead of area, or both text and area? This may be causing the problem as well. Quote
Fire Alarm Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 From what I could make of the table. You can not just add a formula with the cell range. It does not pick it up. If you want to add a particular formula, you have to use the equation option from the formu;a button in the table toolbar. Quote
Marcus Telus Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 Hi... I am inserting the proper formula in my cell =Sum(A3: D33) and it doesn't matter how in insert the formula as I have tried every which way possible and it still gives me #### as my total. I've tried =Sum(A3: D3) (without the space in between : & D as it adds a happy face in these forums) I've tried =A3+B3+C3+D3 I've tried it with all the methods listed above (thanks for your input on this) But it still ends up with #### I've even started different drawings with different areas..some small, some large and my cell width is always wider that what the actual sum should be. I went as far as to try it on two other computers here at the office (Transportation Engineering Department) and it always ends in the same way....#### Is there a site on the web where I can store my print screens so that I can link you guys to it. Our IT guys are strict as to which site we can access as I had a few sites to store images but they won't let me access them Quote
Marcus Telus Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 If one of you guys can send me their email addy, I can send you the images so that you can post it on here. As per my reply above, our IT guys will not let me access any image storing sites Quote
Marcus Telus Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 I'm trying to post links to some screenshots but i need 9 posts before I can do so..... Quote

Cad64 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 You don't need to post links to external file hosting sites. You can post images here in the forum, and you don't need 10 posts in order to do so. See here: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8863 Please don't post just to increase your total. Your other posts have been removed. Quote
Fire Alarm Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Marcus, I don't know what to tell you. I just did it again using higher numbers, and I still do not get the #### signs. See attached. Again have you used the formula button in the table toolbar instead of manually inputting it. If you manually doing it then it will not work. You have to use the formual button from the toolbar. Marcus Telus Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 Cad64, Sorry. I didn't know that you had picture hosting capabilities in these forums. I originally attempted to reply with a message with my links when I only had 3 posts but it gave me an error telling me that I required at least 9 posts to be able to link or place images. I was not attempting to increase my post counts whatsoever. I am not 5 years old, thank you. Why would I even do that? I needed an answer to my problem, and by replying to the other threads was the only way I could get my 9 posts to be able to add the links to my message. Again, sorry! Fire Alarm, Yes, I have used the formula button in the table toolbar instead of manually inputting it. as I said before, I've tried all possible ways and I still end up with the ####. looks like I can't do formulas with my AutoCAD 2009. Thanks for your help. Quote
