Polyline Global Width vs Lineweight

What is the purpose of the Global Widht value for a poliline? What is the relation of this with the ineweight of the polyline?

We use polyline width for fat lines versus normal drafting pen weights 0.18,0.24.0.35 etc just set polyline to normal pen weight then other objects can be on same layer.

There are three ways to assign width to a polyline.

 

1) Start the polyline command, pick your start point BUT before picking the next point type W (for width) and specify both the starting and ending width.

 

2) Draw the polyline first, without designating a width, then use the Pedit command and the Width option.

 

3) Use the Plinewid command to set the width of all polylines drawn after the command is issued. This variable will not change the width of polylines drawn previously.

 

AutoCAD default lineweight width is 0.25mm which is equal to one pixel. Lineweight width is controlled by the system variable LWDEFAULT.

Polyline with a width of zero will use the global line width, Polyline with a width greater than zero and the global line width is ignored and the pline width is used.
