MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Hi guys My Autocad is in some mood and doing some strange things. Ill try explain. Im finding that my text lines (MTEXT) are resizing and changing properties by themselves. I usually use Arial font but Im finding now, on 2 different projects Im working on, that all text suddenly reverts to txt font and at a slightly larger size. Even text in blocks are affected. Aside from that, if I double click it to do an MTEXT edit the text vanishes so I cannot see what I am editting. I have to move the cursor blindly through the line of text to the characters I want to change and then do changes. When I click done the text appears again with the changes made. So now my blocks, legends, titleblocks etc have incorrectly sized text as well as some text has gone. Whats going on?? Rob Quote
MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Its actually affected all my drawings now. Help? Quote
ReMark Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I see you are using 2010. Did you download and install Update 1? When did the problem first occur? Quote
MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 No I havent downloaded any updates before. It started yesterday on one drawing and upon opening others today Ive found the same thing happening. Some text its simply not visible either, whether Im editting it or not. Quote
ReMark Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Well try going the update route first and see what happens. I can't think of a reasonable explanation for why text would resize itself or vanish. Are you using annotative scaling by any chance? Quote
MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 ReMark - To be honest Ive never fiddled with Annotative scaling so doubt this is related. Right? Heres a pic showing whats going on... As you can see the text in the legend is resized and some isnt even there in the title block and in the cable schedule. Quote
ReMark Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 It (annotative scaling) would only be related if it were used. Did you receive the drawing from another company or client? Quote
MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 No they are drawings which I have worked on before, all of them. Im busy with the update. My work has ground to a stop as a result of this. Quote
MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 What a lovely day Im having, upon running the update I get this message. Any ideas? I selected the Autocad 2010 Update 1. Quote
ReMark Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the update. You also have to pay attention to the OS you're using as there is a distinction made between updates that should be used with Vista and those that should be used with XP. Quote
MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 I downloaded the 32bit update... http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=13760520&linkID=9240618 Quote
ReMark Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 There are actually four updates listed. Two for 32-bit (AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT) and two for 64-bit (same choices). The ones for LT have the letters "LT" included as part of the name of the *.exe file. Quote
ReMark Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Instructions for uninstalling a service pack or update in case it comes to that: Click Start menu (Windows) > Control Panel. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. At the top of the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select the Show Updates check box. Find the product, select the update or service pack that you want to uninstall, and click Remove. Insert the installation disk or select the original deployment location, and then click OK. At first I was thinking I'd delete this post since you never really installed the update. But, on second thought, just in case someone needs the info I think I'll leave it intact. Quote
MisterJingles Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 If you check the link above it doesnt give me the option to stipulate what OS Im using. It only distinguishes between the 32 and 64 bit which I selected the correct 32bit. Or did I miss a step? Ive double checked so doubt it. Quote

The link you posted takes one to the site for downloading Update 1 for the full version of AutoCAD. It says so. This is where you should have gone: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=13760573&linkID=9240818 Try again. And next time...let's be careful out there OK? You'll notice that in the Readme file one of the problem areas addressed was MText. Unfortunately AutoDesk did not elaborate on what was broken and how it was fixed in the explanations listed. That's a bummer. Quote
