stevsmith Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Are there any videos showing how to use and generate sections. I'm struggling getting to grips with this. Quote
ReMark Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 What seems to be the problem? I'm sure a search of the Internet would turn one (a video) up. Quote
stevsmith Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 basically when i am drawing in 3d i tend to use the flatshot command and drop the projected block into a new drawing. I just find it easier because all we do is bolt and weld bits of steel together. there is no need to detail sections. But i have came across a detail that would require a section (complete with hatching) I've checked f1 to try and help me out but it's just gobbildy gook, If i see it being done in a video, I'd be sorted. i'm one of those, if you show me once kind of people. Oh, and it's probably more of a problem because i don't use paperspace. Quote
SuperCAD Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 When you use section planes, make sure you use the "Orthographic" option (type O at the command line) to select where you want you section to be taken from (i.e. top, bottom, left, right, front, rear). The section plane will automatically align itself on the center of the object and may even turn on live sectioning (at least it does on mine). Use FLATSHOT for isometrics only, since it creates a block with all lines/arcs with a 0.0mm lineweight. Use SECTIONPLANE for your elevations, plan views and (obviously) sections (you'll have a little more control with how your lines and hatch pattens look). You won't need paperspace to use section planes. Quote
Patrick Hughes Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 An option you might consider is to simply slice the object(s) you need the section of and do a flatshot of the resulting sliced object. Then manually hatch. I know, it would be best to use the sectionplane command but that's is all that is doing essentially. Quote
ReMark Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 You might also try the plain old SECTION command. Quote
Guest Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 It sounds to me like something the SOLDRAW/SOLVIEW command might help you with, though they used in paper space... Try looking at the help menu for thoes commands. If all else fails, Patrick Hughes idea works quite well. Quote
kencaz Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 To add to SuperCAD's post, remember that once you create the section-plane you need to change some settings for hatching. Right click the center line within the plane (I have it selected in the pic). This will allow activating live sectioning and to change section settings like hatch type and scale. I put my section planes on their own layers so they can be turned off. KC Quote
stevsmith Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 Hey guys, thanks for all you help. Sorry It's taken so long to reply. I don't have broadband at home installed yet. I'm going to give everything a go today at work ( That's how busy we are:) ) I'll be back with the results. Quote
