MikeP Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 How can I fix this? I have my files saved on a company server, I can see the server drive in My Computer, But when I try to open anything In Cad the drive does not appear. Quote
Glen Smith Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Just for kicks and grins, what happens if you double click on one of the drawings on the network drive? Will it start AutoCAD and open the file? If it does, can AutoCAD now find the network drive? Can you save a new drawing to the network drive by doing a File - Save As? Glen Quote

Open, Save, Appload. Basicly anywhere that you open a select file dialog window in CAD, it does not show this drive. We have 2 network drives. It shows one just not the other. I just dont get it. nukecad Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Have you mapped it as a network drive? Quote
mrbucket Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I will take it one step further... Right click on start- Explore- Find the Drive. then..... in AutoCad......... File- Open- .... while Open File box is open, use the explore link and drop it into the left side quick link area. Quote
Car5858 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Have "IT" or admin. check to see if you have permission to access the network in question. Quote

I seems like it will allow to do that, but it does not place the file there and yes I do have permsisison to that folder or else I would not be able tp open it in explorer Quote

nukecad Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Thinking back I have seen something like this before at another company when the server did not show up as its own drive and you had to get to it through My Network Places, but that was in windows as well. Anyway the way we got round it in autocad was to put it into the Favourites list and access it from there. Not a pretty work round but it did the job. Quote
Tankman Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 I can't see te server unless, like nukecad, I go to the server through "My Network Places." After which, I can copy and/or open any *.dwg file on the server. Including write protected files. I can also "Copy To" the server through "My Network Places." My automatic scheduled backups are also stored on the server. Quote
swip Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I know this is a really old thread but other's may still find the Answer useful. I have found this to be a common issue for VPN user's. When windows boots it does not connect to the drive and the share drive shows a red X at the time AutoCad is launched. Resolution - Go into the drive so windows explorer is aware if the connection and the red x is removed. After that from Autocad right click in the drive area and choose refresh. The share drive is now recognized. Quote
CJL Posted Monday at 10:15 PM Posted Monday at 10:15 PM I had this problem, it turned out to be on the windows side. Go to Control Panel, "Network and Sharing Center", "Advanced Sharing Settings" and make sure "Network Discovery" is turned on and "File and Printer Sharing" is on. Problem solved, for me at least... good luck Quote
