mcrump Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 How do I cut the holes in the larger pipe where the smaller pipe penetrates the larger one. I would also like to cut off the smaller pipe at the inside diameter of the larger pipe. Thanks for any advice. Quote
shift1313 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 one method is to draw all the pipes as solids then after completion Shell. You can trim the large pipe using the profile of the smaller pipe. are these all separate parts or are the smaller pipes the same part as the large one up to the flanges? How large are these pipes? those flanges look pretty thin. how did you create the pipes. did you just extrude them to the larger pipe? if so you also have the sketch for the pipe so you can extrude>cut that same sketch and select only the larger pipe. MarkFlayler Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 You can use Copy Object with an Associative or Non Associative Surface and then Sculpt away the unnecessary material. Step 1: Open the part for editing INSIDE the assembly (not exclusive open) Step 2: Start Copy Object command Step 3: Click the pipe segment to copy in and use a surface not a solid, and check whether you want it associative or without a link Step 4: Use Sculpt to remove material from the pipe segment based on the copied surface. kencaz Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I would first cut all necessary holes in the header first at the appropriate angles, (although in the real world the holes would probably be drilled a 90deg) using a profile equal to the inside diameter of the smaller pipes. Then create your smaller pipes, notching them also using a profile equal to the headers outside diameter and at the appropriate angle. Create a new assembly file and insert your pipes with a couple of mate constraints and your done. KC Quote
