malevy Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 I need to buy a plotter that will work with vista x64 and acad 2009.. any suggestions.. this post has been up for about a month and no responses which is kind of strange considering this is a dedicated autocad forum.. so please help me figure out what i could buy for home as far as a plotter or wide format printer.. thanks for your help
Strix Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 probably because nobody has a plotter at home! how big do you need your prints? would an A3 printer be adequate?
malevy Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 No i really wanted something that printed up to D size. I know there are a ton of older plotters available cheap but they probably wont work with vista x64 so thats why i was looking for something newer that i know supports vista. probably because nobody has a plotter at home! how big do you need your prints? would an A3 printer be adequate?

Something that supports a D-size page, AND has Vista x64 bit support would definitely be classified as a commercial machine. Brand new, probably $10k bare minimum. The main plotters that I know of which provide a large format size, and that would support Vista x64 bit would be Oce, Xerox, Ricoh, and Kip. You can Google each brand and do a quick search.
architecture68-raff Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 If I were you, I'd look at something like the HP DesignJet 500 They are designed for small workgroups or single users, and if you truly need only up to D-size prints, you should be able to do with the 24 inch model that starts at around $2,000. We have the 42" model in our small office for in house check prints and small jobs - our big jobs always get sent out to the repro house. I've seen a bunch of them on ebay in the past...only suggestion I would have is to make sure you buy the HPGL/2 card for it if you decide you like it. I know that it was a nightmare getting HP to release Vista drivers when Vista was first introduced, but looking at their technical support page for the Designjet 500, they now have Vista and Vista 64 drivers available for download. Good luck
