A coworker has insisted I convert all XLS files to tables for our drawings. Is there a way I can copy multiple cells in an XLS and paste them into a table correctly? When I paste the XLS cells into a table it puts the multple XLS cells into each cell selected in the table.

Thanks.

not sure if this is of any use but we had a problem here trying to paste cells into a table (I think).

If the cells were selected BR-TL and pasted, they occupied one table cell.

If the cells were selected TL-BR and pasted, they went in correctly.

Don't ask how we found that one out....

I'll keep that in mind however it doesn't seem to have any bearing on copying cells in the XLS and paste in the AutoCAD table.

Is the use of a DataLink an acceptable option?

We went through hell trying to get the data link to work so we really don't want to revisit this again. I've used the Paste Special and pasted it as an XLS but my coworker thinks putting everthing in tables works better for him.

Do a Paste Special and paste it as an Autocad Entities.

EdCycler thank you very much. This works perfectly!

I've attached a JPG to show the difference between the two tables inserted differently in AutoCAD. I'm trying to reduce the size of the table that I pasted as an AutoCAD entity but I can't get it to reduce by selecting the table and clicking on the blue triangle. The text height is at 2 and the cell height is at 6.6. There's plenty of room to reduce the table but it won't budge.

I realize text height has a control on row height but I want to get the row height tighter to the text. Is there a way to do this?

I too am willing to transition from using the OLE option of linking an Excel spreadsheet to the DATALINK / TABLE option - my only difficulty so far is getting the table cells to adjust independently from the text size and vis-verse ... the DATALINK option makes too much room around the text / values as Ziemerd has stated (above).

I would appreciate any assistance in this.

Thank you

There is a vertical/horizontal cell margin property. Highlight the column/row/cell and select property. If you are using data link the table may have to be unlocked.

I've just started using the DATALINK option myself. I am referencing four worksheets in one spreadsheet to four different process flow diagrams to input process stream data. Like you hntrak I am puzzling it all out at the moment. I'll give some thought to your question though in the meantime. Should I make a "discovery" I'll post it here.
