tramifsky Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I'm fairly new to AutoCAD in 3d but not new to 3d modeling. I want to draw a rectange in a certain plane and then extrude it into a box. The rectangle command will only let me draw on the xy plane even after I enter an xyz relative point with my second point entry. I see my UCS icon is missing an arrow on the z-axis. Could that have something to do with it? Quote
shift1313 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 the rectangle command will only let you draw in xy plane. you can rotate your UCS and try that. Also there is a BOX command that will let you create a 3d box, but again it will ask you for xyz coordinates for the bottom left and top right corner. To rotate your ucs you can do 1 of a few things. the easiest is to type UCS in your command line, look at the prompts. if you select X you will rotate your UCS around the X axis, if you select Y it will rotate around the Y and so on. Temisan2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 All u have to do is to bring up a tool called UCS2.IT HELP TO CONTROL THE X Y Z AXIS.YOU CAN BRING IT UP BY RIGHT CLIKING ON ANY TOOLBARS YOU ALREADY IN DISPLAY.NOW TO DRAW A REC ,MAKE SURE THE UCS IS IN WORLD.THEN DRAW.....................AND EXTRUDE. ReMark Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Learning to manipulate the UCS is a required skill when working in 3D. Quote
Randolph Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 You can also define the UCS by 3 points. That's often the easiest way. Enter UCS, new, 3point (there's also a button in the UCS toolbox). Click the 3 points as requested. It might be that you have to construct them first. If you want to make a box, why not use the box command? This defines the rectangle + height in 1 command. Quote
