arliejan
I am rephrasing my original question - can I open a VP inside another VP and have it print? The one I tried won't print although I can see it on screen and it shows up in print preview... Thanks Arlie
chulse
Is this what you are looking to do? http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7798&highlight=hole+circle+viewport+region
arliejan
Yes, thank you CHULSE. I reworded the solution from RIGA here: To get such a viewport, start from scratch. (Can replace circle with rectangle in this instruction) In paperspace layout, draw a rectangle (not yet a VP) of the dimension of the main viewport that is needed and then a circle positioned where you want to create a "hole". Then transform the rectangle and the circle into 2 separate regions (do command _REGION two times) > At this point with the command _SUBTRACT, subtract the circle from the rectangle (select rectangle 1st, cir 2nd) to obtain a single region which is your rectangle with a "hole" and now you only need to transform this rectangle into a viewport: _-vports > Object > select the region > done! Now when needed you can place a circular viewport in the "hole". To do this from the drop down menu: View > Viewports > Polygonal Viewport > then use Arc to draw a circle - using the same point to begin and close into a circle.
