Trim - Cut - Extrude???

Hi Again Guys,

O.k.,,,, I have have complete brain lock. Attached pic shows a solid round bar coming down to a angled plate. I would like to trim the bottom side of the bar to the work plane that I created on the top surface of the angled plate and I am trying to do this in the assembly (.iam)

Any suggestion or pointers?

was the bar created before or after the frame work there? If it was created after you could extrude a circle from a pane away from that plate and use the "To" option in the extents drop down box(instead of distance). If it was done after and you need to trim it you can use the split command which will ask for a sketch to split the object. there is an option to remove one side of the other after the split.

Either way i wouldnt modify that without going in to edit the part first(split is only available that way). Since you have a face there i dont think you need to create any planes, you can simply use the face. You may have to break ties but i cant remember off hand.

Hey Matt,

Hey, the split function worked great,,,, thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it. Still getting used to Inventor,,,, been a 2D Autocad user for 20 some odd years, in ALOT of disiplines. Inventor is the way to go as far as I can see.

Thanks again Matt

P.S.-- Did you come up with anything on my other post about Trimming a member?

no problem bill, there are always other methods to tackle the same problem. I played with the other issue last night but wasnt able to come up with any way to use a plane while editing the frame member. Its just odd. Also i looked in my help file in 2010 with no mention of using a plane. Maybe it was a typo that they omitted for 2010 and not 2009:)
