Structural Steel Library??

Recommended Posts

I'm quite new to Solidworks.

I'm using SW2009 and saw a tutorial for an older version

where they had an entire library of structural steel members

(actually the shapes you could extrude) to choose from.

I cannot find this in SW2009

In this tutorial there was a Toolbox Menu with a Structural Steel

option. It had a nice dialog with a large assortment of shapes.

The closest thing I have found was under Weldments -> Structural Member but there are only a couple sizes to choose from.

Where is this Toolbox menu?

Thanks.

Please remember. I'm a nubie!

There are few structural member but you have to built your own and save it. Click on the library it will show your toolbox from then there will show up a configure setting that you have to select. There some people here knows how to make your own structural members, kinda forgot how I do it .

in the Tools menu up top there is an Add-ins menu you have to go to. Make sure you have the toolbox loaded and you should have the toolbox menu up top. what version of SW09 are you using?

also as shown in the second image if you expand the design library(on mine i have it placed on the right) you can expand the toolbox(if its loaded in add-ins), expand your standard(ansi inch shown), structural members, steel and then it gives you a listing of the structural members. you can right click on these and insert into an assembly or create new part. It will prompt you for inputs to define the member.

I feel like a stupid GOOB!!

I forget there are 2 Solidworks menu systems.

One with the icons and then if you move your cursor up to the left

it changes to a standard File/Edit/View/Insert...

Looky there.. Toolbox -> Structural Steel

OK! I'm stupid!!

Thanks Shift1313!

I had loaded some of that stuff but not all of it.

no problem. it takes a bit of getting used to since there are tabs/icon menus, the bar on the right and the file/tool/edit etc. you can change the setup around to your liking also.
