I want to enlarge this irregular-shaped object (without having to redraw) so that its height becomes EXACTLY the same as the outside rectangle.

How do I do it? I don't think "scale" is the right tool here.......

Thanks!

Scale is the right tool. You have to know the height of the box and the object. Use the Reference option.

Can you elaborate a bit please? I don't understand "new length" or "reference length"

Thank you.

This is an easier way...

use the bottom of the rectangle for your basepoint. Then choose "r" for reference when prompted. Then select the bottom and top of your object. Finally, select the top of the rectangle.

You''ll have to move your object but you wont have to measure it.

You could do it mathematically, if you divide the height of the rectangle into the vertical height of the object it would give you the ratio to scale the object by. more than one way to skin a cat??

Kencaz That's great! Thanks a lot!

Another way using Scale with reference.

Move the object until a corner is exactly on the bottom line (Snaps Endpoint and Near). Draw a diagonal A to B then extend it to the top line at C. Now scale the object with the base point at A, the reference length A to B, and the new length at C. :D

ALIGN command will get you there the quickest, no move command involved. Granted not much extra time to move, just wanted to mention ALIGN as many folks forget about it.

Actually in this example the ALIGN command will distort the shape of the object if you are not careful about picking points, so the SCALE command with Reference is the best bet.

Rkent, that's also great! I read about align in the help files and now I know how to move, rotate, and scale 3D objects using align. Thanks!

Don't just limit its use to 3D, it does work great for 2D, just not this particular example.
