Sneblot Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hi Im new to this forum and AutoCAD itself only downloaded the trail on Sunday, I am trying to apply for a trainee draughtsman position with a building firm. They have sent me through a brief to test my skills out now, heres the brief:- Attached you will find a hand drawing from a customer requiring a single storey extension, extending by 3000mm to the rear of their home at a length of 6,700mm to provide extra living space to their existing lounge and dining room into a large spacious living room/kitchen/seating area. The client provides no further brief. Here's the request:- Please draught 3D drawings of the external elevations for that client What do they want me to do exactly can anyone point me to examples of 3D drawing of external elevations? I have tried which was drawing out a floor plan including the extension and then extruding the lines, however it looks really bad. Thanks for all the help in advance. Sneblot Quote
CADMASTER1128 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Welcome to the forums! Glad to see you joined! So you have to draw this house in 3D? Or just an elevation of the house? Do you have a dead line on this? Quote

Do you have a dead line on this? Hi thanks for the reply. All it says is that I have to draw 3D external elevations of the given plan (the plan includes rear view, side view and floor plan of house pre extension), I do have a deadline for this it is this Friday I have already drawn out the rear, side and floor plan with extension in AutoCAD (for a little extra as it is a job application after all) but now Im alittle stuck. This is what I have so far how ever the 3D element looks shocking! Quote

Cad64 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Cadmaster, you might want to make that file a little more accessible by turning it into a pdf so anyone can view it. Not everyone has power point installed on their computer. Quote
Cad64 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 If anyone needs it, there's a free Power Point viewer HERE. Quote

Cad64 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Thank you for expressing the concern, However... (not to sound rude) I have a video built into the PPT and I find it to be an important part of the tutorial. I'm just saying that people without PPT, like me, won't be able to open your file. That's why I posted the link to the free viewer. If you're going to post files in a format that's not commonly accessible, you should provide a link to a site where people can download a viewer. Also, the video will not play because you have not included it with your file. You should zip all the relevant files and then attach the zip to your post so it can be extracted and then the PowerPoint should work as expected. Quote
CADMASTER1128 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Thank you also for posting the viewer. I will keep that in mind for the next time I post something. Quote
Sneblot Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Thank you again for the tutorial it helped loads here is my finished example. I hope it gets me in the door. Quote
Sneblot Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Just to ask a stupid question is the picture above a external elevation drawing or I am doing it wrong? Quote
CADMASTER1128 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Looks like a nice drawing. I assume that the tutorial did help. I would say that the drawing you made there is an external elevation drawing. Just to be safe I would create the 4 elevations. Quote
Sneblot Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Thank you for the tutorial it help loads, I know that this may sound even more dumb but when you say 4 elevations I take it you mean frount, right, back and left drawings? Quote
Cad64 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 That's not exactly an elevation drawing. It's more of a perspective. Elevation drawings are generaly front, rear and side views. Take a look HERE. Quote
Sneblot Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Aha I see I have already drawn them I have a side and rear view. As here is the hand drawn plan I got from the company Im applying for and here are the three types of drawings I have done. Plan.pdf Quote

I am sure you will get the job. I think the company is smart about giving this "test." The attached PDF is what the company gave you? Quote
