Can't extrude in autoCAD 2004

Can anybody help i've been using autocad 2004 for a few years now but today for some reason i can't extrude. If i draw a polyline box and press extrude it tells me "a 3D solid must be selected " Then says "No solids detected".

 

I've tried creating a region but still no joy.

 

Any ideas? and why is this all of a sudden a problem?

If the full warning is:

 

A 3D solid must be selected.

 

No solids detected.

 

Select faces or [undo/Remove]:

 

Then the button alluded to with

 

press extrude

 

may be mapped to the SolidEdit Extrude, not the standard _Extrude command. As a test enter _Extrude at the command line then pick the pline box.

Must be having an off day!! i was selecting solidedit extrude but was doing all morning for some reason. Standard extrude does the job just fine. thanks
