cad_student Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Hi, I am currently learning Autodesk Inventor,But have hit a snag...The problem is how to create angled line's,I need to create 20 deg angle lines in the example drawing below but am struggling to do so.Any help is greatly appreciated. Quote
JD Mather Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Attach your file here. What release of Inventor are you using? Have you gone through these tutorials? http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/AU2006/MA13-3%20Mather.pdf and slightly different http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/AU2007/MA105-1L%20Mather.pdf Quote

JD Mather Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Don't you just select dimension [D] and then click both the lines and type the angle you want? Might want a Symmetry constraint to control the angle in addition to the dimension. Quote
JD Mather Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 ..Although i have been using rotate to create the angled line's Sounds like you are trying to use Inventor like it was AutoCAD. Forget about trying to rotate - I have never used that. In Inventor you are sketching just like freehand on a sheet of paper with a pencil. Do not bother to try to get exact or even particularly close. Do your sketch and then add dimensions and constraints to get it exact. (I recommend sketching one line and dimensioning it immediately to give a sense of scale to the rest of the sketch.) Don't put off reading those pdf documents - do it now. Quote
JD Mather Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I am using Inventor 2009 Students can download Inventor 2010 for free from http://engineersrule.org Keep in mind if you are using 2009 at school the files are not backward compatible from 2010 to 2009. Quote

Hello, I had originally downloaded 2010 on student licence but discovered that the cheaper books for study are now 2009 and the way the economy is here in the U.K at the moment i guessed that a lot of employer's will still be on 2009 and below,So i off loaded that and replaced it with 2009,Maybe as the cash flow improves i will start to learn 2010.As for your tutorial's i really am looking forward to studying those but have to finish this study book first,I also split my study hour's between Autocad (More 3D these day's) and 3DS Max:?. Sooo as i need to get through this book first ,Any chance of a breakdown on the procedures on this angle prob of mine?? Quote
JD Mather Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Sooo as i need to get through this book first Take about 15 minutes to read through the beginning of that pdf on the sketching techniques will get you through your book much much faster. I'm done here. Quote
cad_student Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Don't you just select dimension [D] and then click both the lines and type the angle you want? Yep easy!! that worked for me Many thank's for your cut to the chase response:). Quote
