CROSSTIE Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I need to edit a block in multiple drawings. Could someone give me some ideas? Quote
dbroada Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 if it is the same block with the same alterations in all drawings you should create a file of the new block. Then in each drawing INSERT and Browse to find your new file. AutoCAD will ask if you want to redefine the existing blocks so answer yes. Once the refine has happened either escape out or place your new block and delete it. You may need a regen to see the changes. If you have altered attributes you will also need to ATTSYNC too (but this doesn't work with LT). Quote
SLW210 Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Edit the block in 1 drawing, then use Design Center (Right-Click>Redefine) to update in the rest of the drawings. Quote
wingzero Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I know it has been a while since this post was originally worked on but I had an additional question on the same subject. I am updating a title block where I need to keep the existing attributes. I am trying to do this as a script to replace Fred with Fred so that I can use a batch file to repeat the process for all the rest of the drawings. -INSERT TITLE_BLOCK_NAME=C:\TITLE_BLOCK_NAME Y save quit This updates the existing title block with the edited one, however CAD is still prompting me for insertion coordinates, scale, rotation....etc. I can exit the prompt by hitting esc, but that won't work for me since I want to use a batch file to do multiple files. Thanks for your help! Quote
dbroada Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I haven't found a way to send an escape in script so I insert each new block at 0,0 (or anywhere), then zoom extents and finally ERASE LAST before doing the same for the next block. The ZOOM EXTENTS is no longer necessary but LAST used to be last visible. If your new block wasn't on screen it wouldn't be picked. AutoCAD 2008 treats last as the last entity in the database so no longer needs to be visible. Quote
