jayman Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Hi all, I have some software that creates a .dxf file that I would like to be able to open in autocad. (currently i have tried this with versions 2007 and 2004. My problem is that while i can open my exported dxf file in any (ive tried 3) free dxf viewer I cannot open it in Autocad. When i attempt to i get the following error "invalid or incomplete dxf input -- drawing discarded" I suspect autocad is being stricter about something in the file that maybe the free viewers just ignore. I have attached a dxf file example. I would be interested if anyone can open the file and/or shed some light onto where i am going wrong. many thanks J demo.DXF Quote
The Buzzard Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 As you can see at the bottom of the Select File dialog, You can select different types of formats. Quote
The Buzzard Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Ok, I see what you mean now. Will look into this further. Quote
The Buzzard Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I opened the dxf in notepad. AutoCAD does not seem to recognize some of the format. What software are you using to create the dxf? Quote
The Buzzard Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 It seems your dxf is missing vital information that AutoCAD requires I would assume. Below are your partial dxf and a dxf in AutoCAD. I just show the begining of the two files for quick reference. This is your dxf. 0 SECTION 2 TABLES 0 TABLE 2 LTYPE 100 AcDbSymbolTable 70 1 0 LTYPE 100 AcDbSymbolTableRecord 100 AcDbLinetypeTableRecord 2 Class Line Style 0 70 64 3 Solid line ________________ 72 65 73 0 40 0 0 LTYPE 100 AcDbSymbolTableRecord 100 AcDbLinetypeTableRecord 2 Class Line Style 1 70 64 3 Dashed __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 72 65 73 2 40 0.75 49 0.5 74 0 49 -0.25 74 0 0 LTYPE 100 AcDbSymbolTableRecord 100 AcDbLinetypeTableRecord 2 Class Line Style 2 This is a typical AutoCAD DXF. 0 SECTION 2 HEADER 9 $ACADVER 1 AC1015 9 $ACADMAINTVER 70 20 9 $DWGCODEPAGE 3 ANSI_1252 9 $INSBASE 10 0.0 20 0.0 30 0.0 9 $EXTMIN 10 -221.2045081874669 20 -908.198357601954 30 0.0 9 $EXTMAX 10 3980.540947143398 20 888.6338788328606 30 0.0 9 $LIMMIN 10 0.0 20 0.0 9 $LIMMAX I would look into the software you are using and see if its meant to be compatable with AutoCAD and any special way you would need to save to an AutoCAD dxf.
