SilverTiger Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Ok, you guys are getting into areas of CAD that I honestly don't know enough about. I've been using CAD since '97 but have never had the need to twist anything until I got into designing ships (recently). What is a lisp command and what does it do? Also, another complex solid question: Does 2007 have the option of REVOLVING an object, but on an elliptical path that stretches the pline to match as it is revolved? If so, can it be done in 2005? Here's what I'm trying to draw (look at the panels on the rams on eahc side of the fuselage, as well as the power systems located adjacent to the rams on top of each j-wing (has five panels that have a slight twist): Quote
PS_Port Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 ST, re your lisp question take a look here. http://www.cadtutor.net/faq/questions/28/How+do+I+use+an+AutoLISP+routine%3F As for the revolving around eliptcal path .. maybe you could give a screen shot of what your trying to do.. Also my first thought was maybe extrude..along an eliptical path.. Dude your in for a world of hurt....thats a pretty complex object....how long have you got. Quote
SilverTiger Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Yeah, I tried that. It ends up extruding the profile I created and, if the object is outside the path, it leaves ahole in the center; and if the object is on the inside of the path, the profile intersects itself. I'll try to post some shots. Quote
SilverTiger Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Profile of object to be revolved and the elliptical path: Left: Inside Path Right: Outside path Extruded objects Left: Intersects itself Right: Leaves a hole What I want to do is actually REVOLVE the object but have the profile stretched or contracted from the axis to the elliptical path as it is being revolved. SLW210 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Appears to me that you really need to upgrade to at least 2007, so you will have the LOFT and Sweep options available. Quote
SilverTiger Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 I guess I have to. But in the meantime I guess I'll try to learn that lisp thing for the surface meshes. Quote
