SilverTiger Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Is there a way or what is the best way to create this solid (yellow)? I know that there is a command to create a 2d solid by picking points; is there one for 3d? The object starts off as a triangle and then tapers and twists to a flat edge at the back. I'm using 2005 Full. Quote
chrisdarmanin Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 is this what you are trying to achieve? because i didn't quite understand it... i did it in acad 2007, dont know how to use acad 2005 3d sorry maybe someone will be able to help you after seeing my picture Quote
Hedgehog Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 It all depends what shape it is in 3D (difficult to tell from a single 2d outline)... simplest way is to draw the outline with a 2d closed polyline & extrude it to the required height in the z... but if it's a more complex shape then you've got to try other methods. Guest Alan Cullen Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 oooooo, mate, one post to go. You snuck that one in. Quote
PS_Port Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Hey chris , I assume you did that with the LOFT command, I don't think thats available in 2005. Quote

PS_Port Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Blue your going to have to explain how you would extrude that shape Its not tapering its twisting..... I could be wrong.. Loft would let you basically extrude one shape to another shape along a path Quote

Guest Alan Cullen Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Because you're a really well trained red haired terrier. Quote
chrisdarmanin Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 try the 3DFACE command but it will not be smooth like mine... Quote
chrisdarmanin Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 yes i did it with the loft command in acad 2007. 2005 doest have it Quote
scj Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I'm shure, JD Mather will beat me... but here is a approximative solution before LOFT and SWEEP, using RULESURF and M2S.lsp Regards Jochen 3dsolid.dwgFetching info... Quote

Pocket Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Since its a 'twist' curve Slice/extrude/taper are out I have no experience with loft so Id go with 3DFace or EdgeSurf You can use the M2S lisp on both of those to get a solid Quote

SLW210 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Many ways to do this in 2005, but it can be done in a few seconds using the trial version of 2008 with LOFT, as JD Mather suggested. Do this with the trial version of 2008 and explain to the boss you need an upgrade. 2009 will be out soon. Quote
Pocket Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Quote Slice with surface Elaborate on this command? So far Ive only seen the slice command used with planes A surface slice would be extremely helpful Quote
