Need a little help. I've tried different types of lights, shadows on/off, etc, but nothing helps. The posh hanging down is actually larger than the room's walls and ceiling, so there should be no bleed coming through the two lights but I'm still getting it. Anyone know off the top of their head what the issue could be? Thanks again.

is it a 3d solid or is it a set of faces?

the floor and walls are REGIONs. the Posh and ceiling are solids.

i created a quick model using solids. I added some red point lights behind the fixture so you could see the bleed and didnt get any.

well when I do a simple render it works. Its when I turn on all the advanced lighting when it does it (global illumination, final gather, and ray tracing set to ON). Try that same render with all three settings to on.

i didnt save it:) but ill recreate something real quick and give it a shot. It is usuing a different render engine, or rather an older version.

sorry i got a bit sidetracked. i made the walls, light box and roof all different colors so there was some contrast and i sent the render to presentation and still no bleed through. all my object(except the wood floor) are 3d solids. you said some of yours were regions?

forgot to add the pic

seems to be working for you but even if I use nothing but solids it bleeds through. Dunno man.... thanks for all your help in trying to recreate my issue Matt. I'll try and ask on another forum I'm on. :)

well when i render your file i get the light bleed issue in 07. If i replace your region with a solid wall, the problem seems to go away.

gotcha. I still kept the ceiling as a region and that's where my mistake was. Thanks a lot again Matt, problem solved. :)

Hey..sky....You already want to do like that?:)

The only thing you need to turn on shadows for two lights behind the cover wall attach with ceiling!

Ps...no need to change solid!...this model is your original entity!

I said in my original post that even with shadows on it didn't work. :(

The image i showed for you that made only turn on your lights shadows.

Here is mate!I tested with acad 2008!:)

Hmm..... That does work, with simple shadows.

Two problems: I hate "simple shadows" because they are the most unrealistic shadow mapping available IMO, and I don't want to case any shadows. So can I fix this without turning shadows on and using simple shadows in the advanced render settings?

Here is autodesk suggest for shadows..from help.

Advanced Render Settings Palette (Quick Reference) Shadows

Contains settings that affect how shadows appear in the rendered image.

Enable Specifies if shadows are computed during rendering.

Mode The shadow mode can be Simple, Sort, or Segments.

  • Simple. Generates shadow shaders in a random order.
  • Sort. Generates shadow shaders in order, from the object to the light.
  • Segments. Generates shadow shaders in order along the light ray from the volume shaders to the segments of the light ray between the object and the light.

Shadow Map Controls if shadow mapping is used to render shadows. When on, the renderer renders shadow-mapped shadows. When off, all shadows are ray-traced.

Sampling Multiplier Globally limits shadow sampling for area lights. This is part of the rendering preset data. This allows draft and low quality presets to reduce area light sampling. It’s effect is to modulate the inherent sampling frequency specified for each light. The default value=1 for new presets. Values are 0, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2. Draft: 0; Low:1/4; Med:1/2; High:1; Presentation:1.

For cast shadow, you can control your model ...properties -ingore shadow and cast shadow!:)

Yes I know what that means. I'll try the "ignore shadows" option but I'm really not wanting to keep track of that in my larger models.

Ok..mate...may i advise you for using photometric lighting!

I thought this lighting system is base on real world unit(watt,cd,lum)..

So you should use like actual condition!..In this case ..your two photometric

lights behind the hanging posh work as dramatic effect!...So you should

use turn on shadow more than turn off condition. In this case..this can

give realistic ...But some of case for using many photometric lights, you can

shadows turn on for key lights and turn of fill light!:):)

In this case you can use generic light(like as acad 2007) as your want!

is the "pelmet" run thru your ceiling or does it stop at your ceiling?? if it runs thru, it will cause bleedtru. its a known issue from way back.

make your "pelmet" stop exactly at your ceiling, this may help.
