Hello all, I tried looking this up and did not quite find what I needed. I have hundred of rooms that I have created closed polylines. The rooms also have single line text with the room number. I want to link each space in the floor plan to an Excel spreadsheet. Each space will need to have an identifier – e.g. room number – in its properties and in its corresponding record on the spreadsheet. I’m dealing with a lot of rooms, so I’d rather not have to number each space in manually. All of the rooms on the floor plan in the dwg file are polylined and all of the polylines are on the same layer of the dwg file. This layer contains nothing but the polylines. I also have another layer that has room numbers for each polylined room. The only thing on this layer are the room numbers as mtext objects. The mtext objects aren’t linked to their respective polylines, after I run DATAEXTRACTION Is there a way to associate a room number with each polyline in AutoCad? Can I store the room number in AutoCad as xdata associated with each polyline and somehow have it recognize it as a property of each space? Is there any way to create a custom property for polylines in AutoCad that the room number can be stored in? I'm using AutoCAD 2015. Thank all in advance

Need a way to count blocks in specific ROOMS
mmCAZ posted a topic in AutoCAD Drawing Management & Output
Hello All, I need a way to count furniture blocks that are located in specific ROOMS. More specifically, I'm looking for a way to select MULTIPLE different blocks at once (with a WINDOW selection) and label them a specific room number. I don't want every block with the same properties universally updated (since some will be in other rooms). I also don't want to have to select each block in every room and update its attributes manually (this would both take a long time and things may be re-located over time). I would like to be able to print a report and compare it to our Microsoft Access database. I know there are other furniture-CAD programs that will do this, but is AutoCAD capable of doing this on its own? I have millions of square feet to check furniture for and this would save me days- if not weeks of time! PLEASE HELP!- 15 replies

Linking Room Names to multiple drawing files using fields
Movieangel posted a topic in CAD Management
I have figured out how to link my room names that are on multiple layers (ceiling, 1/8" scale, 1/4" scale, signage, etc.), but I am wondering does anyone know if I can link them outside the current drawing. I would like for when I update my room name and number for them to automatically update in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing sheets. Like I said all architectural are linked so that when I update one the others follow, but currently the other disciplines just copy and paste my names into their sheets which has been fine, but I think it is less risky for them to automatically update. I am considering creating additional layers in my background for the other disciplines but am kind of leary about giving them access to the backgrounds. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Room Names.dwg
