I was wondering if its possible and someone knows a way, to get another machine to do the grunt work on a batchplot; in a similar way to a render farm outsources computer power to do large renders. I find the plot in background option takes significantly longer to plot and slows the computer down to boot, we have a spare CAD machine sitting in the corner, I'm imagining it wont be too hard but I could be wrong. cheers

My current place of work does not seem to be looking to upgrade to anything beyond basic 2d AutoCAD in the foreseeable future. But, while we sit stagnant, progress continues around me. It seems that a good 80% or more jobs out there are looking people to have Revit experience (or something similar). For that reason I am looking to purchase Revit program, and a new computer to go along with it. I would be using this to do work on the side, as well as just to use in order to know the program. I do understand that the program is about 5 grand or so, but will have help paying for it and the computer. Any thoughts on systems to run the program would be greatly appreciated. (computer specs, etc.) This is kind of a big deal to me, and I want to do it right as it may be the base for my own business. (In th field for almost 20 years and would like to eventually go on my own) Also, If this thread is in the wrong location, could a mod please move it?

I first heard AutoCAD’s WS, then some other apps sprung up like mushrooms. Boeing even brought its nine decades of aviation innovation to iPad. Siemens is developing its app on mobile. Upgraded MC from GstarCAD was released, just name few. The companies who already launched their mobile apps are improving their products and companies who haven’t are developing. Is it relating to the recently statements (From Eric Jackson’s article that Google and Facebook might completely disappear in the next 5 years.) that the third generation will be Mobile?

Hello, everybody! For conducting Boolean operation, I use Trim but I feel troublesome since many selections have to be carried out. So I wonder are there some new way to simplify the process? Hope anyone could give me some advice. Thank you.

I only have a tiny macbook right now, and I need a more powerful desktop to run programs like AutoCAD 2011 (3d), SketchUp, CS5, and eventually Revit, and 3ds Max. I am a student, and I don't have ton of money to spend, but I do want something that will run these programs smoothly. I was thinking about building a computer, but I'm not even sure where to begin. Any suggestions as to where to look? My dad keeps telling me to just go to Best Buy, LOL

What's the best computer setup for running AutoCAD and Revit
lizardmaster1 posted a topic in Hardware & Operating Systems
My desktop PC recently fried so now I need to buy a new tower to do my AutoCAD 2010 and Revit Architecture 2010. I'm a student just finishing up my associates degree in computer drafting and I will be starting a cad drafting business shortly. I need a computer that is reasonably priced and upgradeable, has enough memory, RAM, and VRAM to do all my cad work, some 3D modeling and rendering and run my Microsoft Office software. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. James
