Floating lines in sketchup after importing them from ACAD? What should i do?

Hi need help for autocad 2009/ 2007 version

I’m pretty much a noob in this and only use it for master floor plan drawings and recently need to export these files into sketchup for model making. However when I do so, almost all the lines are floating. I tried typing “flatten” in the command bar but it didn’t work. =x

Is there a way to make the lines flat? Thanks in advance =)

PS: The lines I drew are curved lines.

Maybe you can post the file so we can get a better understanding of the problem. Theoretically, FLATTEN should work, try exploding the geometry first and try again, this shouldn't be the reason or the solution, but you never know.

Also are you using SU Pro or the free version, i have noticed some issues importing DWGs on the free version.

Dwg files may contain 3d information that ends up in x,y and coordinates. When we import dwg files into SketchUp we will face 3d faces or lines that are very hard to process in model making...

So what should we do..

there are two common ways to overcome this problem

In first one, we can import our dwg file to Archicad by Graphisoft.... This architectural drawing program flattens our lines when keeping our layers in order. Then we can export or save as this file to dwg file... THATS ALL

The second one in a little complicated actually.... as you know autocad processes lisp files which are helpful extensions in CAD drawings. A lisp called "iron" makes our lines flattened also. But this lisp needs layers to be collected in "0" and colour as white...

i hope these are helpful...

You don't need to purchase another piece of software just to flatten your drawing. It can be done with the commands that already exist inside Autocad.

Procedure: (Bold text should be typed into the command line)

Command: MOVE

Select objects: (Window select all objects you want to flatten)

Specify base point or [Displacement] : 0,0,0

Specify second point or : 0,0,1E99

Command: MOVE

Select objects: P

Specify base point or [Displacement] : 0,0,0

Specify second point or : 0,0,-1E99

very impressive command as I was in desperate need of this because flatten would not work. Now the problem is after I executed the previous, it seems my UCS is all hosed up. I try to pick an iso view and my crosshairs comply but not the view itself... I finally get the gizmo to rotate (the view) but my crosshairs do not cooperate... any other suggestions to flatten? strange stuff happening now
