  1. Be carefull using a pline with width when you dimension it will be to the middle of the pline. Not necessarilly top or bottom of plate. Like Cyberangel it depends on your drawing stds if you imply the dim is the height measured from the top side of the plate then no problems.

  2. It depends on whether your company has standards and how you like to draw. There are pros and cons to both methods. If you use two lines to represent a piece, you can hatch the space between them and attach other objects to the exterior. If you use a polyline with width, you only need to manipulate one entity. Depending on the scale, it may be hard to tell the difference in the printed version.
