I am currently doing CAD level 3 and an HNC. I have been asked by a tutor to help out with drawing up a site plan for a local charity project.

I know what tools to use to draw but on the CAD course we dont cover standards of any kind.

So I have a plan of sorts, but knowing how to make it into a proffessional plan is not something I know. I was hoping perhaps someone could direct me to some standards for linetypes, hatches etc... or if possible let me ping over the drawing so they can advise me on what I need to do to get it upto scratch??

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Simon

Just start off your drawing in different layers.

Create new layers such as "Architectural" & draw your plan in it.

Another layer called as "text" for the room names.

"dims" for all the dimension & so on. Whatever names that make you comfortable.

Later on when you are done you can just post it here. Maybe one of us could come up with some good suggestions for you.

Dont get me wrong here folks, Im not asking anyone to do anything but advise, I do wonder if I bit off more than I could chew a the moment but it is for a local charity.

The college is supply students for the project, plans/brickies/chippys etc.. and local companies are supply materials all free so seemed like a good way to get some experience and do my bit.

The drawing looks good.

I see double wall on the external side of the room.

Is it something like insulated wall or something like that ?

If it is so, You should differentiate the hatch patterns.

Then add legends to it.

On the actual building yes it is two walls. Exterior wall, cavity then interior wall. I did think perhaps they should be hatched differently but they are made of the same material so really wasn't too sure on that one.

The building itself Im pretty happy with other than some dimensions. The site layout Im not as confident about!

I have also been asked to do elevations and somehow produce an artists impression from some photographs i took, photography is another hobby of mine but I take pictures of people and retouch them. I dont 'do' buildings...lol. But Ive agreed to give it my best shot ...

The legends for the walls could be "Existing wall" & "New wall"

Any ways thats not that important. To decorate it in the plan itself all you need is some good blocks those are already in Autocad. Use some good hatches such as gradients. (thats what i do) I dont think its too difficult to make a 3d model of this & render it. 3d blocks are available on the web anytime.
